John Pool's Golf Challenge
Our long-standing supporter took on an Ace Challenge in July 2024
We are thrilled to report that the challenge was a huge success! John walked the entire 36 holes, unassisted, in 6.5 hours and raised £10,000 for Amref. This now takes John’s lifetime giving total to £100,000.
We are exceptionally grateful to John for all his support and to those who supported John with donations for this challenge. This fabulous total of £10,000 will support the vital work in Africa to work with communities, train health workers, and create innovative solutions for lasting health change.

“I undertook this challenge to generate additional funding support. I dedicated myself to walking and playing 36 holes unaided on my club’s hilly course – Temple Golf Club at Hurley, and played without rest or respite. At the age of 85, I was initially quite daunted but after accomplishing such a feat in 6.5 hours, I have been humbled by the support throughout this challenge! Thank you to everyone who supported me, I am incredibly grateful. And a big thank you to Amref for your support and invaluable work across Africa!”
