A strong advocate for the charity sector, His Royal Highness first came into contact with Amref during a trip to Kenya in 1971, and became a Patron in January 1979.
"Amref Health Africa believes in people as a catalyst for change, and so do I," His Royal Highness wrote in 2014, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of his patronage. "They have changed millions of lives, not just for the people living in the communities they work in, but for those of us here in the UK too - donors and supporters alike. We are all part of those communities, of their history, and of their future.
"So, as we look toward our vision of lasting health change, we must take that notion of community and remember all that it stands for. I am truly honoured to be a part of Amref Health Africa. Their unwavering belief in the power of people and the communities they support is one that should inspire us all."
