It was the hottest race on record, a sweltering 24 degrees Celsius for the tens of thousands of runners who braved the gruelling 26.2 mile course through the streets of London on Sunday 22nd April. Despite the conditions, Amref Health Africa UK’s five runners - Akintunde, Charlie, Keith, Femi and Russell - all completed the marathon. Akintunde, one of our runners from Nigeria, had particularly impressive stats, completing the race in less than four hours. As our runners passed the Mile 12 point, Amref staff shouted and cheered like crazy from the side-lines, snapping photos and encouraging our team (and everyone else who passed!) to keep on going.
So far, our runners have managed to raise more than £12,000 through this year’s marathon event – an incredible sum, and one which will go far in supporting Amref’s work delivering lasting healthcare to remote and marginalised communities across Africa. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the Amref Team next year, please visit our Challenge Events page to find out more.
Congratulations once again to Team Amref 2018 – YOU DID IT!
