Africa on the Square 2018

On Saturday 27th October, thousands of Londoners from every walk of life came together to celebrate Africa on the Square.

The event - part of Black History Month and described by the Mayor of London's office as "a cauldron of creativity" - included live music, dance, a roaming parade, vibrant fashion shows, and traditional cuisines from across Africa for the people to experience, learn and enjoy.
The main stage, right in the middle of Trafalgar Square, hosted an exciting talent show where performers and musicians from all over Africa were able to showcase their skills. As Africa’s leading health charity, Amref’s UK team was on the ground to represent and experience it all as well as raise awareness of the work Amref does, in partnership with communities in over 30 countries.

We asked visitors to add stickers to a map to indicate the countries they or their families came from (pink stickers), along with the countries they had visited (yellow stickers). By the end of the day, the map was filled with colour.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat, shared their stories, and asked about Amref. Let's keep in touch - and we'll see you next year!
