What do we do?

Our work in Kenya dates back to the very first iteration of Amref Health Africa - when, in 1957, it was established as the Flying Doctors of East Africa, flying in small planes containing medical supplies and personnel to remote regions where access to health services was limited. Today, we have grown into Africa's largest health NGO, with our work spanning 35 countries across the continent: but our roots remain firmly in Kenya.

From our Kenya country office, we implement circa 40 programmes across all 47 counties. Our work is built on three pillars: human resources for health, innovative services and solutions, and investments in health. To this end, we work closely with the government, other partners, and local communities to sustainably strengthen the health system by supporting a devolved system of governance that can directly address the needs of local communities - especially women, children, and young people.
