1. What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities to claim back tax from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on donations made by UK taxpayers.

For every £1 you donate, Amref Health Africa can claim an extra 25p – at no extra cost to you.

2. Am I eligible for Gift Aid?

If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year (6 April to 5 April), you can complete a Gift Aid declaration.

3. What if I’m not sure if I pay enough tax?

Most people who pay tax on their income or savings in the UK will be eligible for Gift Aid. If you’re unsure, you can find more information on the HMRC website or contact HMRC for advice.

4. What is a Gift Aid declaration form?

This form gives us permission to reclaim the tax on your donations from HMRC. It only takes a moment to complete and means your eligible donations will automatically be worth 25% more!.

5. How does Gift Aid help Amref?

Gift Aid provides vital additional funding that helps deliver long-term health programmes, training, and support to communities across Africa.

6. What if I support other charities?

You can Gift Aid donations to as many charities as you like. Just ensure you pay enough tax to cover the total amount claimed across all your donations.

7. Can I cancel or change my declaration later?

Yes, you can cancel your declaration at any time or update your details if your circumstances change. Contact us at info@amrefuk.org, and we will update our records.

8. I am a higher or additional rate taxpayer – can I benefit from Gift Aid?

Yes. We can still claim Gift Aid on your donations at the basic rate. You may also be able to claim additional personal tax relief through your Self-Assessment tax return or by contacting HMRC.

9. I am not a UK taxpayer – can I still claim Gift Aid?

That’s no problem – you are not eligible for Gift Aid, please return the form so we may update our records and exclude you from future Gift Aid requests. If your circumstances change, please let us know.
