Why donate to Amref Health Africa?

Amref Health Africa is the largest Africa-based international health development organisation. We work in 35 countries to improve people’s access to primary healthcare to bring about lasting health change in Africa. Every year, we reach an average of 17 million people across these countries.

We begin by listening to communities, designing our programmes and finding solutions in partnership with them. We look at the barriers that stand in the way of people accessing health services and address them holistically. Our programmes are people-centred, evidence-based, and sustainable. And because we are Africa-led – with decades-strong, trusting relationships with communities and decision-makers across the continent – we are able to go further, reaching more people.

Together, we are creating lasting health change.

"Because Amref is based in Africa and its staff is predominantly African, it is run by individuals who respect and listen to local people. It does not dictate healthcare solutions from the outside. Instead, it believes in listening to communities."

How does Amref raise money?

Like Amref’s other country offices, we raise money for our work from generous gifts from people like you, including donations, legacies and fundraising to support lasting health change across Africa. Each year people run the London Marathon, host community events and or request donations in-lieu of gifts during their celebrations.

We also receive funding from organisations, including our corporate partners and charitable trusts and foundations.

Our impact on millions of lives across Africa is truly only possible due to the community of supporters who chose to donate to Amref.

How will my donation be spent?

We are committed to using your gifts wisely. Your donation will support our many community-led and people-driven programmes across Africa, and the vital work behind them. In fact, we’re proud to say that 85% of every pound raised goes directly to programme costs.  A small but essential part is used to support the wider organisation and raise future funds – ensuring that your gift has long-term impact.

From protecting infants against deadly diseases, to supporting people who have experienced sexual or gender-based violence, it is our promise to you that we are honest, accurate and transparent in how we work.

Find out more about our Fundraising Promise to you, below.

We deeply value your support and are grateful for your interest in Amref’s work. We are committed to fundraising legally, ethically and respectfully. We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator, and adhere to their Code of Practice and our own Fundraising Promise.

Your generous gift will be better used when it does not contribute to a specific country or project, as this falls under unrestricted funding. The key benefit of your donation being unrestricted, is that it enables the people who need your gift the most, to spend it in the way they need it most.

When your donation goes towards a particular project or country, the funds are more limited in how they can be spent. To discuss donating to a country or project, please email info@amrefuk.org or call us on 020 7269 5520 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday.
